#GivingTuesday Spreads Global Good Will
On Giving Tuesday, the world unites to take a break from the sense of commercialism that comes with Black Friday and Cyber Monday, and give to charity instead using the hashtag #GivingTuesday. Last year alone over $45 million was donated to innumerable charities working to make a difference in our world. While today is National Giving day, we are proud to be among more than 500 companies that have joined the “Pledge 1% movement” and taken the pledge to build philanthropy into our company throughout the year.
The need for companies to give back has long resonated at Xactly. Over ten years ago, when the company was founded, Xactly CEO Christopher W. Cabrera established the philanthropic branch of the company, XactlyOne, so employees would have a chance to make a difference in the communities where they live and work. XactlyOne organizes volunteer opportunities and projects for employees, and these volunteers strive to make a meaningful impact and create positive changes. The rewarding experience of helping others has served to strengthen the Xactly team.
To further encourage employees to give back in our community, Xactly provides three paid volunteer days a year for Xactlians to participate in philanthropic ventures that are near and dear to them. We regularly volunteer at Second Harvest Food Bank and Sacred Heart Community Service in San Jose, and in addition, we host fundraising events throughout the year for causes ranging from Cancer research to helping underprivileged children gain access to better opportunities and education.
Integrating social awareness into company culture benefits the organization, supports the causes their employees volunteer with, and enriches their employees as well. According to Dan Ariely’s Ted Talk, when people feel like their work matters, they’re helping people, and they are making a difference in the world, it inspires their performance, and can increase their motivation. Every time I’ve participated in one of our events, it’s been a rewarding experience that made me feel good about giving back, and provided me with an opportunity to get to know people outside of the office.
This holiday season, XactlyOne will be helping collect toys for children in need, as well as collecting canned goods for our local Second Harvest. The goal of the Toys for Tots program is to deliver a message of hope to the less fortunate children in our communities and so that they too can experience the joy of Christmas. Second Harvest distributes food to those in need throughout the Bay Area.
When companies give back it benefits all involved – the company, the community, and the employees. We hope that more organizations continue to discover the value of incorporating philanthropy into their corporate cultures. We’re excited to see more and more people getting inspired to make a difference as the movement continues to grow.
